St Cyres Football Kings
The Cardiff and the Vale Schools' Football Association Under 15 - Year 10 cup final was played at Bryn y Don in Dinas Powys on the evening of Monday 14 May. This St Cyres team has reached the final every year and has won the cup on two previous occasions. This year, a strong Cowbridge team provided the opposition. During normal time, both teams went close to snatching victory but neither could make the decisive score to break the deadlock. The match was eventually settled with a penalty shoot out. The team captain, goalkeeper Jake Keating, saw two opposition kicks go wide of his posts. St Cyres in the meantime had only missed one attempt. At 3-3 and with one kick remaining, striker Junior Scott stepped forward. Junior held his nerve, placed the ball on the spot and hammered it to the keepers' left. St Cyres 4 Cowbridge 3. Congratulations to the whole squad, Cardiff and Vale Champions 2012. RG (15/05/2012)

Donate and Decorate
Sixth form students have been busily producing wearable works of art as part of Voluntary Arts Week 12th – 20th May and the ‘What’s in your Window?’ campaign? Using a selection of donated shirts from Oxfam Boutique on St Marys Street, students have cleverly transformed the original appearance and function. The decorated shirts are inspired by famous artists, including Gustav Klimt, Salvador Dali and Banksy, with a few lesser known such as the musician Ronnie Wood and the iconic El Greco. The media used has ranged from textiles, paint, printmaking and collage to create a wide variety of styles that generate quite an impact in the current window exhibition. Customers will be able to view the shirts on display during the next two weeks. Unfortunately they are not for sale, but you may be tempted in store by other items donated to charity or choose to make a donation to Oxfam. Thanks to the students who volunteered their time; Josh Dutfield, Connor Mackenzie, Charlotte Gonthier, Hannah Tucker-Wilson, Olivia Richards, Sarah Vanner, Sara Rahman, Rosa Greenburrows, Joel Trew, Keira Brangham, Lucas Valvo, Raymond Wong and Mr Brown.(14/05/2012)
