Over the weekend of the 7th-10th April St Cyres Geography department took 26 pupils to the heart of Italy’s Bay of Naples. On arrival they were greeted with excellent weather which continued for the rest of their stay – thankfully! A packed itinerary of Pompeii, Vesuvius, Herculaneum, The Amalfi Coast (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and the town of Sorrento itself provided the day to day focus but this trip not only gave pupils the opportunity to learn Geography outside the classroom they were able to grow as young individuals and thrive on the responsibility of being away from home and experiencing another culture and way of life – both modern and Roman.
A local guide tells the pupils about the history of Vesuvius as they stand on it’s slopes.
