Important Notice about the Friends of St Cyres

Current members of the Friends of St Cyres have children in year 11 and above, therefore potentially there are no members in a position to take the ‘Friends’ forward into the future.

As a result of this it was proposed that:

The ‘Friends of St Cyres’ as an active association be put in abeyance for one year; if no active members willing to take office are recruited before the next AGM is due we will proceed to wind up the affairs and finances of the association.  This was agreed by everyone present.

About Us

Welcome from the Friends of St Cyres

The “Friends” support the school in a variety of ways with the aim of promoting the social and academic development of its pupils.

A variety of fundraising activities take place during the year. We are usually a visible presence at the various Open Evenings, Award Evenings and Musical Evenings, frequently selling raffle tickets!

In recent years we have made contributions towards a web cam aimed at a nest box in the conservation area, a P.A. system and amplifiers, basket ball hoops and kit for a pupil selected for the Wales Youth Rugby Squad, plus a data projector for the Maths Department.

A ‘300 club’ is organised and run by the “Friends”. This provides us with the bulk of our funds. Each year we appeal to all parents who are new to the school to consider becoming a member of the 300 club. The winners of the monthly draw will appear in the Penarth Times and also on Parent Mail. Prizes vary according to the number of members of the club at any given time.

Alongside this the school have formed a partnership with Ty Hafan to promote their lottery, which you can join by filling in an online application. The school benefits by 30p from every £1 subscription every week. Everyone joining through the partnership has the same chance of winning as anyone else, while St Cyres and Ty Hafan benefit. The Friends of St Cyres promote the scheme and administer the funds raised.

Please ensure that if you are a member of the ‘Friends of St Cyres 300 Club’ that you keep the Friends updated with any change of address so that we can ensure any winnings are sent to the correct address. Please do so by writing to the Friends of St Cyres c/o St Cyres School, St Cyres Road, Penarth, Vale of Glamorgan,CF64 2XP.
Also, if you wish to join the ‘300 Club’ then you can download an application form from this website but please ensure that the completed form is sent to the Friends of St Cyres c/o St Cyres School and do not send it straight to your bank. The Friends need to make a record of your application and issue you with a number, then we will send a copy of your application to your bank otherwise we have no record of your application.
