Our Sixth Form

why st cyres sixth form?

Why choose St Cyres?

St Cyres 6th Form enjoy all the benefits of being part of a 21st Century school, as well as having their own specialist accommodation which comprises the 6th Form Centre, dedicated 6th Form classrooms, a Silent Study Room and a 6th Form cafe.

Results at both AS and A Level continue to be very strong and the majority of our leavers in 6th Form leave for their first choice university.  Many of our students move on to study in Russell Group universities and we have a good record of supporting students who apply for Oxbridge and for Medicine and Dentistry.  A smaller number of students move on successfully to apprenticeship placements.  In  all cases, we get to know students well during their time with us, and we are always able to support them in their journey to their chosen destination.

St Cyres 6th Form is a warm, welcoming environment and, whilst the majority of our students who join our 6th Form come from within our own Year 11, we also welcome applications from Year 11 pupils from other local schools.

What does our 6th Form look like?

The Sixth Form at St Cyres offers a stimulating, vibrant and challenging environment for learning. We have high expectations of all of our Sixth Formers and aim to develop an enduring interest and excitement for their chosen subjects as well as the necessary skills to succeed in a rapidly globalising world. Our Sixth Formers have enquiring minds and we enjoy facilitating academic debate and higher level thinking skills We place a strong emphasis on developing leadership in our Sixth Formers and many pupils hold positions of responsibility as part of the prefecture or Head Boy/Girl Team: the Sixth Form are at the heart of the school community and inspire younger pupils in all areas of school life

A strong system of support and guidance - student wellbeing really matters

Students receive outstanding pastoral and educational advice at St Cyres. You will be part of a Learning Coach group and your Learning Coach will oversee your progress. Your Learning Coach will be a specialist in Post-16 issues, and will help you to manage the transition to a whole new way of learning, as well as providing you with the guidance you will need to decide on your future plans.

A caring approach to students’ progress

Regular assessments and target setting effectively helps staff and students keep track of their progress. The first of these will be used to ensure that the courses students have chosen will enable them to make progress and succeed at the end of Year 13. We set minimum grades targets early in Year 12, based on GCSE results. We will always offer support where students encounter problems at any time throughout their studies.

Blended Learning

As an Apple Distinguished School, all 6th Form students receive an iPad to support their learning. Teaching staff across the curriculum utilise the one-to-one technology to enhance the delivery of the A Level curriculum and allow effective teaching and learning taking place in all circumstances. As a result, our well established, sector-leading use of this technology within the classroom has enabled a seamless transition to remote learning. Staff and students' familiarity with google classroom has meant the confident delivery of engaging live lessons, with the ability for students to 'google meet' with their teachers for further support where necessary.
