Andorra 2019 Ski Trip Article
In the February half term, 51 students as well as 6 teachers travelled to Andorra for a fantastic week of skiing. They left on the 23rd of February for a 24-hour bus journey all the way to Andorra! Although the journey was tiring, the destination was definitely rewarding.
Upon arrival, the students and teachers all took part in a competitive bowling game as their evening entertainment for the night. After they got back, everyone headed to bed to prepare for their first day of skiing. The next day, after a filling breakfast, everyone headed to the mountains! It was a beautiful view. After being split into groups, the beginners learnt how to put on their skis and move around, while the intermediate groups practised going on the ‘magic carpet’ lift and doing snow plough turns. At lunch time, everyone came together to recuperate and fill up before heading back onto the mountains. Later, the intermediate groups went up on the chair lifts for the first time while the beginners started going on the magic carpet! After a tiring first day, everyone returned to the hotel for a chill evening.
On day 2, everyone was feeling very excited to return to the mountains and start skiing again! The higher intermediate group went on some of the chair lifts and improved their skills as they skied all around the resort! The lower intermediate tried a few different chair lifts and started learning about parallel turns. Meanwhile, the beginner groups started learning how to do snow plough turns on the magic carpet! After a long but fun day of skiing everyone returned to the hotel for quiz night which was run by Miss Jones and the other teachers!
As day 3 and 4 came around everyone had improved massively, especially those who had never skied before! All of the groups started using the chair lifts and travelling to the top parts of the mountain! The higher intermediate group even travelled into a resort in Spain! For the evening entertainment on Wednesday everyone went to a shopping mall in Andorra! It was lots of fun and was very much appreciated by the students. After skiing on Thursday, everyone went to a spa, there was a pool, saunas and lots of other things for the teachers and students to use to relax after their tiring week! Thursday was extra special for one student as she celebrated her 14th birthday. Everyone sang happy birthday to Maddie at dinner!
On the final day, everyone was feeling tired but looking forward to one more day of skiing. All of the groups had fun going up and down the mountains one last time. All of the groups gathered together at the top and took part in a short race to see who was the fastest skier. After this, some of the groups went into the snow park with their instructors, it was lots of fun! After skiing, everyone took a quick shower and then it was time to go! After another 24-hour journey and a trip through the Euro Tunnel, they arrived back at St Cyres.
All of the students said a big thank you to all of the teachers who made the trip possible – Mr Bolton, Mr Morris, Mr Burrows, Miss Jones, Miss Hennessey and Mrs Rowlands! The awards that were given out were to Elliot for biggest personality – even though he got injured on the second day and couldn’t ski for the rest of the week he still managed to make everyone else smile, Ellie for best comedy moment – somehow, she managed to fall off the ski lift! Also, to Megan for best skier, Jacques for ski speedster and Sion most improved skier! Well done guys! The trip was tiring and tested some students, it was fun and taught students a lot more than just skiing. Hopefully, next year’s trip is just as good!
