St Cyres Football Girls show potential

The St Cyres Year 7 and 8 girls travelled to Eastern High School to play in the Cardiff Cup. Their opponents appeared much bigger and stronger but the St.Cyres girls held their own for much of the game.

Amy Buckler was outstanding in goal, making several great saves. Ella Hilliard and Lucia Davies began to link well in attack creating a breakaway goal and then Ella scored an absolute “screamer” from well outside the area.

By half time the score was 5-2 to Eastern High. This score remained with some much improved defensive play from Cerys Leigh, Bethan Havard and Millie Purchase-Smith. Farah Abdo and Nia Manley began to support the attack but St. Cyres could not get the all-important goals. Girl of the match was awarded to Ella but Amy also played a vital role in goal. Well done to all the girls involved.

A team made up of girls form year 7 through to Year 10 recently played their first home match on our new full-size 3G pitch. An amazing performance saw St Cyres victorious, beating Fitzalan High School 5-1. Well done girls!
