Careers and Work-Related Education (CWRE) at St Cyres School

Our Vision

At St Cyres School, we are committed to preparing our students for their future pathways. Our Careers and Work-Related Education (CWRE) programme equips learners with the knowledge, skills, and experiences they need to make informed choices and thrive in an ever-changing world of work.

Aims of CWRE

Our CWRE provision is designed to:

  • Raise aspirations and broaden horizons

  • Ensure all learners understand the full range of academic, vocational, and technical routes available to them

  • Promote equality of opportunity, challenge stereotypes, and celebrate diversity

  • Develop employability skills through real-life experiences

  • Support pupils to make informed decisions at key transition points

What We Offer

Curriculum Integration

CWRE is embedded across the curriculum and supported through:

  • Discrete lessons within the Health and Wellbeing programme (Years 7– 9)

  • Curriculum-linked opportunities (e.g. enterprise in Business, labour market trends in Economics)

  • Careers education as part of the Welsh Baccalaureate

Careers Education Lessons

From Year 7 onwards, learners take part in regular CWRE lessons which explore:

  • Personal strengths and skills

  • Career exploration and research

  • The world of work

  • Labour market information (LMI)

  • Post-16 and post-18 pathways

One-to-One Guidance

Pupils have access to impartial, personalised careers guidance from our qualified Careers Adviser. This is available to all students from Year 9 onwards and is especially encouraged at key decision points.

Welsh Government CWRE Framework

Our provision aligns with the Welsh Government CWRE Framework and is guided by the Gatsby Benchmarks to ensure quality and consistency. Progress is regularly reviewed to ensure impact and continuous improvement. We are working towards the Careers Wales Quality Award having achieved Stage 1 and coming to the end of Stage 2.

Monitoring and Evaluation

The impact of our CWRE provision is measured through:

  • Pupil voice and feedback

  • Destination tracking

  • Engagement data (e.g. attendance at events)

  • Quality assurance processes, including lesson observation and evaluation of partnerships
