Learner effectiveness Programme

At our school, we want you to succeed, not just in your lessons, but as a confident, independent learner. That’s why all students in year 9 take part in our Learner Effectiveness Programme weekly during Learning Coach sessions as part of the Curriculum for Wales.

This programme is designed to help you understand how to learn better, not just what to learn. It uses something called the Life Wheel, which looks at different areas of your life that affect your learning, wellbeing, and success.

What is the aim?

The programme is here to help you become:

  • An ambitious learner who wants to improve

  • A creative thinker who can solve problems

  • A responsible individual who makes good choices

  • A confident person who believes in themselves

It helps you recognise your strengths and work on areas you want to improve.

What happens in sessions?

You will take part in a weekly Learning Coach session where you will:

  • Learn new skills to help you with your schoolwork

  • Take part in discussions and activities

  • Reflect on your progress

  • Set goals for improvement

  • Learn strategies you can use in all your subjects

You’ll also use the Life Wheel to track how you are developing over time.
