Our School

safeguarding

St Cyres School is committed to the highest standards of care and the safety and wellbeing of our pupils is of the utmost importance to us.  This section outlines the key aspects of the policies and procedures we have put in place in order to safeguard our students.

We have a Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy in place which applies to all members of staff and volunteers working in the school and which sets out the procedures we have adopted to promote the wellbeing of all pupils in our care and to protect them from harm.  In line with this policy, the school has a Designated Safeguarding Lead, Ms Usha Hirani (Assistant Headteacher).  She ensures that the guidance in the policy regarding child abuse, neglect, non-accidental injury and safeguarding of pupils is followed by all staff and volunteers working in the school.  In the absence of Ms Hirani, the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Persons, Mrs Leslie Jones and Mr Simon Morris carry out these duties.  The link Governor for Safeguarding is Mrs Julie Thompson.

In accordance with our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy and our Safer Recruitment Policy, all staff and volunteers are required to undergo safeguarding checks before they begin work at the school and regularly receive training.

St Cyres School works in partnership with other agencies in order to deliver the best care for our pupils.  When we have concerns about a child’s welfare, we may need to share information with these agencies.  The school will always endeavour to discuss these concerns with the parents or carers in the first instance, unless we have reason to believe that to do so would not be in the child’s best interest.
